Here Song (Friuli Venezia Giulia)

Here Song is a multimedia art piece by Cannupa Hanska Luger.
Here Song connects human beings back to place through sound compositions which map the land.
Here Song is an ongoing series of projects related to Indigenous customary practice by multidisciplinary artist Cannupa Hanska Luger.
The iteration presented here is in collaboration with Ginger Dunnill with filming support from Marco Pavan for IoDeposito.
The practice of studying horizon-lines from which to create sonic experience and melody was developed by Cannupa Hanska Luger’s ancestors, the people of the Northern Plains tribes of North America. This “singing the land” connected cultures to place and reinforced their relationship to the land.
In developing the Here Song project for IoDeposito, Luger and Dunnill invited the community of Friuli Venezia Giulia to create a composition of sounds for Here Song responding to the land and water of River Stella, allowing the community to engage with the artists’ work while weaving new sonic stories that relate directly to the regions land, water and community.
