Sarajevo Roses have become a touristic attraction. Even guide books about Bosnia and Herzegovina tell the visitors where they can be found.
Yet they are a symbol of the cruelty that Sarajevo experienced during the years of the siege. The roses are holes caused by the impact of mortar shells on the concrete, and after the war they were filled with red cement.
Some of them, apparently, are being kept as a collective memory. Many people, like Jasminko, believe that they need to remember to avoid war to happen again.
